Picture of the month
Which is why I have often brought an old car along on my shoots: to photograph it alongside whatever else I’m working on.
This means that I often get cool shots of the old-timers in a current environment, and as a result, my clients have the possibility of combining the old with the new later on, if they want.
On this shooting day, we had dialed everything in the night before: the location, the new car, the old car, our gear. We worked until 3:00 AM. And then, at 5:30 AM, right when we were supposed to get started, with everything set up and ready to go in the garden, a massive thunderstorm blew in.
The first shooting day ended up being a scratch, and so, everyone stayed in bed that morning. Except for me, because I’m not much of a sleeper. When I got up and stepped outside… there was this multimillion-dollar car.
Parked exactly as you see it in the picture, soaked to the bone.
A car that hadn’t seen a drop of water in fifty years. No one would ever leave it out in the open, but we just had. I said to myself, I’m going to get a good picture out of this, no matter what.
