René Staud steht vor zwei Exponaten, die er bei dem teNeues Award versteigern will

Benefit Auction/October 2022

Together with works by Bruce Weber, Gunter Sachs, Rankin and other top photographers, two of my pictures will go under the hammer at the end of October. Hendrik teNeues Award in Munich, „Form Follows Function“ and „All Time Hero“ will go up for auction. The proceeds of the benefit auction will be used to promote young photographers and support them in their artistic development.

For the auction I have produced the two images in UV direct printing, one and a half by two meters in size, on acrylic glass – the UV printing is a super technique for such large-format images, the ink still holds in a thousand years. The great thing is that you can print on pretty much any material with it, paper, acrylic, glass – the ink doesn’t penetrate, but lies as a very fine layer and is hardened with ultraviolet light.

„Form Follows Function“ is a beautiful Mercedes 300 SL that I photographed in 2009, the estimated price for the auction is 12,000 euros. My „All Time Hero“ is the famous Uhlenhaut coupe that I had in my studio almost forty years ago – it is now also known as the most expensive car in the world: In the spring, it was auctioned off for 135 million euros. The charity auction on October 22 in Munich is under the patronage of Bavaria’s Minister President Markus Söder, and many artists from all over the world are expected at the Residenz.

Interview / September 2022

"I am an image creator - for me, images are created in my mind and through independent, handcrafted arrangements."

„The catwalk of the car industry“: ProfiFoto magazine interviewed me about what I’m doing after the merger of Staud Studios and media.monks – because no one can imagine me racing and rusting anyway. (Spoiler alert: I now have more time to sift through all my material from the past years and decades and put together new books).

Jaguar Buch in der FAZ

The Jaguar Book /
July 2022

The „FAZ“ also featured my Jaguar book – it was published for the 100th time. The car has just been relaunched for Jaguar’s 50th birthday in September. Two point seven kilograms weighs the beautiful book, as the „Frankfurter Allgemeine“ states, with „all the important Jaguars set in scene“. (Here you can order with dedication.)

Porsche Legends / June 2022

The winning vehicles from Zuffenhausen

My biggest birthday present this year – that it’s now time for the „Porsche Legends“! In late fall, Delius Klasing will publish my new book: „Porsche Legends: The Winning Cars from Zuffenhausen“-which will be a unique collection of icons that we are currently compiling from all over the world.

We gather the most important cars from 65 years of Porsche’s motorsport history in one volume, all winning cars, starting with the Porsche 718 Spyder from 1958, which you can see here in the picture.

The texts come from Jürgen Lewandowski, and Porsche is letting us have some museum vehicles for this book, so that there really is the crème de la crème in there.

The first two icons have just been delivered to me when I returned from my birthday in Mallorca. The Porsche 718 Spyder is a very rare piece. This is Porsche’s first Le Mans winner; although it didn’t finish first, it was right up there with the „Testa Rossas“ from Ferrari.

Next week, the next two vehicles are already coming, and so it goes on now throughout the summer – as I said, this is my actual, big birthday present for me. (If you’re subscribed to my newsletter, you’ll automatically be kept up to date and can then pre-order the book right away – so far only the ISBN is available).

Riva-Treffen ind Saint Tropez

Riva meeting / May 2022

Saint Tropez reunion

At noon with café and croissant at the harbor of Saint Tropez – can be endured: After a year’s break, the Riva meeting is taking place again this year in Saint Tropez. My boat is still there because I left it there last time.

I’ve planned a two-day trip to Saint-Tropez because I want to check out a few châteaux and places along the way – always looking for new, exciting locations for my shoots.

The Riva meeting in Saint Tropez lasts five days, you drive there every day sometimes left, sometimes right, and this time we also have a helicopter with us for one day for filming, that will give great pictures.

In France I am quite regular, where I have not yet been, is the Riva meeting in Sweden, there is driven through the archipelago. That must be super. One day… let’s see, maybe I’ll get around to it.

Tuscany / May 2022

In search of locations

Right now I am traveling in Tuscany. I have organized a small guided tour and look along the way, where you could photograph well. In the end, I’m sure I’ll find a few places to come back to – maybe in a few months, maybe in two years – for a shoot.

And of course I’ll take a few photos along the way. I would love to host the Tuscany tour on a regular basis. (If you are subscribed to my newsletter, you will automatically see when there is something new – when I plan the next tour).

Since I’m 65 and officially retired, my wife often goes along because she says it can only be a private event concern – there is no longer any business reason.

Mercedes SL / April 2022

Quintessence from 50 years

Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Alfred Hitchcock were already addicted to it: For many, the Mercedes SL is the sports car par excellence. For me, it is the largest, most extensive project of my photographic career: over the years, I have had around five hundred SL models in the studio, about three hundred of them from the top class.

I have compiled the best pictures in an illustrated book – to mark the 70th anniversary of the model launch, we have just reissued our bestseller: 272 pages, in three languages, with texts by Jürgen Lewandowski. Seven decades of model history, from March 1952 to the present day.

By the way, the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart is hosting a special exhibition on the subject until the beginning of October, with nine models on a serpentine loop, including the oldest car still in existence: „Fascination SL – a dream car for 70 years“.

These images already provide a great overview of René Staud’s work and photography art.

Das Jaguar Buch, fotografiert von René Staud

Coffee Table Books / December 2021

among the best illustrated books for Christmas

Alongside „The James Bond Archives“ and Helmut Newton, „GQ“ recommends my 340-page volume on the Jaguar as one of the best illustrated books for Christmas. „In addition to Staud’s footage, there are glimpses into the garages of famous car collectors, spectacular film appearances of the Jaguar and numerous anecdotes from the history of the extraordinary car,“ according to „GQ“.

This makes „The Jaguar Book“ one of the 16 best coffee table books that the men’s magazine recommends to its readers as gifts. You can buy it here:
